Haut ist ein empfindliches Thema. Das größte Organ des Menschen, das, was uns mit der Außenwelt verbindet, uns von ihr trennt, und uns zeigt.
Wenn es um die Haut geht, die eigene und die der anderen, öffnen wir uns für unsere Mitmenschen und unsere Umwelt.Was unter der Hirnschale vor sich geht bleibt, Gott sei Dank, noch verborgen, was in den inneren Organen brodelt ist ein Geheimnis, das lange Zeit, bis zur Renaissance verboten war zu erkunden…Die Haut läßt sich nicht verbergen.
Deshalb wird sie umso mehr zur Projektionsfläche aller Sehnsüchte und Unzulänglichkeiten.Begehren und Abstoßung. Dicht beieinander.
Schön soll sie sein. Die Haut. Rein. Je nach Kulturkreis eher hell oder eher „gebräunt“.„Yes We tan.“ (Ein Original-Slogan der Sonnenstudiokette Solarent…)Für die mexikanische Künstlerin Alejandra Baltazares, die ein zentrales Werk für die Ausstellung erarbeitet hat, ein absurder Gedanke… In Mittel- und Südamerika, aber auch in Asien gilt die gebleichte Haut als Inbegriff von Schönheit und Erhabenheit.Eine millionenschwere Industrie siedelt sich um das Geschäft mit Schönheit und Jugend. Und das Geschäft mit der Schönheit ist eines mit Haut und Haar.

Skin is a sensitive topic. The largest human organ, that which connects us to the outside world, separates us from it, and shows us. When it comes to our skin and of the other, we open ourselves to our fellow human beings and our environment. What goes under the skull in front of it remains (thanks God), is still hidden. That what simmers in the internal organs as a secret, was for a very long time forbidden to explore.
The skin can not be hidden.
Therefore it is the more projected area of all longings and deficiencies. Desire and repulsion together.The Skin should be beautiful. Depending on the culture, rather bright or rather "tanned".
"Yes we tan!" (an original slogan of the tanning studios Solarent), was for the Mexican artist Alejandra Baltazares (who developed the central work of the exhibition) an absurd idea. In Central and South America but also in Asia, the bleached skin is considered the epitome of beauty and grandeur. A multi-million dollar industry based on the business of beauty and youth, and therefore, the business of beauty is in the hair and skin.
